MHP’s registered nurses provide prenatal and postpartum health supervision and newborn healthcare. Upon enrollment into the Margaret Hudson Program, our nurses assess each pregnant girl to evaluate her physical and emotional health and to address any barriers to receiving good prenatal care. As needed, referrals are made to our counselors and Healthy Start case managers. Our nurses serve as a liaison for the student with other community health providers. Our nurses ensure that the babies of our students are immunized and receive regular well-baby exams and developmental assessments. And our nurses provide family planning counseling to educate new moms about effective birth control methods to avoid additional teen pregnancies.
