The Margaret Hudson Program is urgently reaching out to our friends and supporters to secure additional operating funds needed to serve our pregnant and parenting teen clients. Our program provides wraparound supportive services to help ensure teen mothers graduate from high school and raise healthy families.
Last August, our nonprofit organization received the unexpected news that we would no longer receive annual Tulsa Area United Way funding. The United Way said the reason for eliminating our funding was because its partner organizations should not overly rely on United Way funding. We were surprised that the United Way took this action, because we had taken a series of steps to reduce the United Way share of our budget to only 18 percent of our total annual budget.
To balance our current budget by June 30th, we need to receive additional charitable support. Our program operates with a diverse set of funding sources, including grants and contracts, individual, business and faith contributors, and private philanthropy. If we’re unable to raise sufficient funds, we will be forced to make drastic cuts in our services.
Our newest fundraising strategy is the launch of a “Margaret Hudson Teen Moms Fund” GoFundMe account. Our GoFundMe goal of $200,000 will make up the difference for the funds cut from our budget by the United Way in our current fiscal year.
